Meta
Pain in neck, arms, shoulders, and even hands can be caused from a pinched nerve. Many people often mistake these symptoms for carpal tunnel syndrome. Sometimes surgery is the only option to relieve pain associated with carpal tunnel, however, with a pinched nerve, less invasive chiropractic care can alleviate pain and symptoms.
Causes of pinched nerves
A nerve can be pinched as it leaves the spine by a herniated-disc or bone spurs that form from spinal arthritis. Another common place for pinched nerves is the carpal tunnel. Regardless of where the nerve is pinched, in the neck or carpal tunnel, the patient often will feel similar symptoms of numbness in the hand, because the brain does not know how to tell the difference between the beginning, middle, or end of a nerve. It only knows that it is not receiving signals from the hand, and so numbness begins.
Treat Neck and Back Pain from Pinched Nerves
When one has a pinched nerve in the low back, pain will usually radiate down the leg. A pinched nerve in the neck can cause pain to emanate from the neck, through the shoulders, down the arms and into the hands.
Muscle spasms in the back commonly accompany pinched nerves and can cause weakness in the arms or legs. The initial symptoms of a pinched nerve may be tingling, numbness, burning sensation.
How to treat pinched nerves
There are several ways to treat a pinched nerve, so your doctor will run a series of tests to assess the severity of the condition before designing a treatment plan. Oftentimes, pinched nerves are alleviated simply by resting the affected area, and your chiropractor may recommend that you refrain from activities which cause symptoms to become aggravated. Some chiropractors will perform correctional settings, which usually include the neck and spine, and hands and feet. The treatment will concentrate on reducing the compression and help loosen muscles, in order to reduce inflammation and corresponding pain. Other pinched nerve treatment options include natural anti inflammatory supplements, acupuncture, spinal decompression, cold laser and ultrasonic trigger point therapy along with massage, hot/cold therapies, stretching and exercise.
